I hoped that with this series, I would find a way to appreciate the incredible South Asian women of our generation, who are breaking boundaries and paving new paths for themselves. Moreover, I would like you to take a little bit of your time to realize how incredible the women around you are.

Especially if you are a woman! I know that at least one woman’s story in my #BelleBoss series will inspire you to follow your dreams, your vision and most importantly your heart. Even if that means breaking a few rules and many societal prejudices along the way.

Could you give us an introduction to yourself?

I’m Megha, a 27-year-old full-time Financial Analyst and a Part-Time Lifestyle Blogger! I was born and raised in New Jersey but lived in India for a couple of years after I was born.  My childhood was pretty normal- you know the basic stuff like participating in girl scouts and being a good girl or sneezing in your sister’s cereal because she made you angry.  I grew up in Parsippany and moved to Basking Ridge (where I currently live) when I was 8 years old. Dancing was my sport, so I didn’t really participate in many activities because that took up most of my free time. Overall, I was exposed to so many opportunities and possibilities while growing up that it made me the person I am today.
Who inspires you as a person?

I’m always drawn to and inspired by someone who stands up for what they believe in, but also someone who doesn’t let negative energy get to them. You can have a million amazing characteristics and an undeniably beautiful personality, but it doesn’t really shine if you keep who you are and your thoughts to yourself.  As an influencer, this is an industry where you are exposing yourself through your best and your worst, and you will break down and crumble if you don’t have the courage to stand up for what you think is right, or if you let someone walk all over you. Those people who have been strong enough to stick by what they believe in, whether they are shamed or not, are the types of people that truly inspire me.
How did you come up with chocolate and cheese, please?

Chocolate and cheese, please started off entirely as a food blog.

I always knew that I had the “blogger” gene in me, but I didn’t know my full capability of it.  I’ve always been intrigued with food styling and putting my own twist on average recipes. When it comes down to cooking and hosting, I am always the one who would be in the kitchen and setting up, because that’s when my creativity really shines. I took the leap and started a $200 website, learned how to use my sister’s DSLR, and started a Business Instagram account that I had no idea how to really manage.

It’s been almost 2 years since I launched my blog and it has turned into more than just a food blog.  It opened up doors to many other topics, such as fashion and travel.  I’d like to say that my little food blog has turned into a lifestyle blog, and I may or may not change the name of it in the near future.

What are your top fusion foods?

Fusion food is something that is really up and coming, but I think I’ve been making it for years without knowing that it’s actually considered “fusion”.  I have a bunch of fusion recipes on my blog, but I think a few of my popular ones are Samosa Taquitos, Tandoori Paneer Shumai Dumplings, and Naan Popper Pizza!

What made you want to be a financial analyst?

Like many other people, figuring out what I wanted to do the for the rest of my life didn’t come so easily to me. Finance intrigued me because it’s not only a good career, but the basic concepts and knowledge are very important to pretty much anyone.

The skills that I have gained from my career in Finance actually help me a lot with my brand as a blogger/influencer, and I’ve used different financial models to understand my growth and what can come out of it.

Aside from that, I’ve been really interested in working in Fashion- but on the finance end of it.  Hopefully, the next step in my career is to land a role as a Buyer or an Analyst for a retail brand… fingers crossed!

What  has been the best piece of professional advice you have received?

I’ve received very similar advice from several people that I admire and respect.  As a professional, it doesn’t matter what your career is or what your brand is.  You have to own what you want because it won’t be handed to you on a silver platter.  It’s not easy to start any sort of brand/career/business.
It takes a lot of time and effort, so I’ve continuously been told to be patient, have faith in myself, and do what makes me happy- NOT what makes others happy.  That’s the best piece of advice I can give to anyone as well.

How can bloggers use statistical analysis to their advantage?
Being in Finance already draws me towards figuring out the best ways to analyze my growth.  Statistical analysis is very important and advantageous to bloggers because our main goal is to cater to a specific demographic.

By using this data, we can continue to sell ourselves in a way that will continue attracting those specific types of people, as well as bringing on a wider range in the audience.

You have visited quite a few places during your blogger journey. What has been your favourite place and why?
I have definitely travelled a lot, especially before my blogging days. However, one of the reasons that I started my blog was to incorporate a chunk of my travels into a defined spot so I could give people full-on itineraries and advice.

My favourite place so far has been Indonesia. I’ve done a lot of Instagram posts from my trip abroad, and I’ve recently started getting the blog posts out.  Indonesia is one of those countries that come from natural beauty.  You go there to enjoy the culture, the food, and the minimalistic lifestyle.  It’s such a pure and wonderful destination that I think everyone should experience in their lifetime.

What i the biggest lesson you have learnt in your 20s?

I made a lot of mistakes which equalled out to learning a WHOLE lot of lessons, haha. I’m now entering my “late” 20’s, and I’ve learned so many things from big to small.

You don’t realize this when you are in college and an impressionable person, but the people who you surround yourself with is one of the best/worst decisions you can make in your life. The people around you drive you to be your best or your worst.

For me, I learned the hard way. I was caught up in a cycle of pretending to be someone that I truly wasn’t.  If I look back at my 21-year-old self, I wouldn’t recognize her from who I am now.  My point is, make logical decisions.  Don’t be fooled, and don’t fool others.  Do as you please, but in the best way possible.  And lastly, always be a kind, loyal, and honest person.
